City of Pomona Adopts New Rent Control Ordinance
In a 5-2 vote on August 1st, Pomona City Council adopted an ordinance establishing rent control and just cause eviction requirements. Although effective immediately, a permanent version of the ordinance will be drafted within the next 60 days, or, if needed, within 90 days. The City of Pomona’s has invited a task force of landlords and tenant advocates to join city staff in drafting the permanent rent control ordinance. The current ordinance includes:
- Rent increases capped at 4% or change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), whichever is less.
- Just Cause eviction protections for tenant
- Establishes a process for rental property providers to petition for rent increases above the allowable and for tenants to contest rent increases.
